Easy Tips for How To Care Wood Furniture

1. Dust Regularly To Care Your Wooden Furniture

One of the easiest and most important ways to care for wood furniture is to dust it regularly. To keep it sturdy, it’s important to regularly clean it with a soft cloth to preserve its hue. Avoid using silicone cloth, as it may cause scratches and harm the furniture’s surface.

2. Using Coating (Wood Coating)

A key aspect of taking care of wood furniture, especially during summer, is to apply a quality coating. This can prevent damage to the furniture and can be easily done by yourself without professional assistance. The process is simple: thinly spread the coating paint on the furniture and wait for 30-60 minutes. Then, using a soft brush, gently rub the furniture. Repeat the coating process after an hour for a glossy finish.

3. Keep it Dry

Placing wet plates, cups, or other objects can leave stains on the surface of wood furniture. If this habit is continued, the stain can damage the texture of the furniture. Therefore, it must be cleaned immediately.

How to clean is quite easy, just wipe the mixture of cooking oil with soda and toothpaste, then wipe gently using a soft cloth. Alternatively, you can crush a walnut kernel and rub the flakes over the stain.

4. Handle with Care

You may feel bored with the look of your room, so you opt to move the current furniture to a different location. Unfortunately, the act of moving it can cause harm to its structure and finish, particularly for wooden furniture. This can occur without you even realizing it.

To prevent damage during the moving process, handle the furniture with care. Additionally, for bigger pieces, it’s recommended to have someone assist in lifting them to ensure the furniture stays intact and to prevent scratches on the floor.

5. Avoid areas prone to water

You may forget and put wooden furniture in an area that is prone to rain splashes, such as next to a window, in a room with a leaky roof, or stick it on a wall that often seeps. You should know that this can accelerate wood damage.

In addition to triggering the growth of moss and fungus that cause wood to rot, paint color can also fade if it is continuously exposed to water. On the other hand, it is not recommended to place wooden furnishings in the bathroom, washing area, or kitchen.

6. Always Use Mats and Coasters

Don’t serve food and drinks directly to a wooden table, as this can leave stubborn stains that are difficult to remove. Always use coasters or other plate finishes before serving food on the table, or applying tablecloths.

7. Avoid Direct Sunlight

Exposure to direct sunlight can cause wood furniture to fade, discolor, and even warp. To prevent this, keep your furniture out of direct sunlight and use curtains or blinds to regulate the amount of light that enters the room. If you have particularly valuable or delicate pieces, consider using UV-blocking window film to protect them.

8. Use Anti-Fungal and Termite Liquid

It is well known that termites and other fungi are very likely to attack wooden furniture. To avoid this, you can apply an environmentally friendly liquid or termite and fungus repellent to protect the furniture

9. Care Wooden Furniture with Leftover Tea

Tea is a type of drink that is always present in every home in Indonesia. However, who would have thought that used tea could be a wood furniture cleaner? This method is effective and worth a try, in addition to being more cost-effective.

Here’s an easy way to clean furniture with used tea:

Dip a soft cloth into the brewed tea, rub it on the surface of the furniture you want to clean, and then leave it to dry.

10. Get Professional Help

If you are having trouble caring for your wood furniture, consider getting professional help. A professional furniture restorer can diagnose and treat any problems you may be experiencing, and help keep your furniture looking its best.

Wood furniture can be a beautiful and valuable addition to any home, but it requires proper care to keep it in good condition. We’ll also provide some helpful advice on how to care for your furniture, so you can enjoy it for years to come. With the right information, you can make an informed decision that will bring beauty and comfort to your home. So, let’s get started!

Types of Rattan Furniture

You’ll need to decide which type is right for your space. While rattan is a common material in outdoor furniture, it can also be used in indoor pieces. The different types of rattan furniture include:

Outdoor – Ideal for outdoor spaces, outdoor rattan furniture is crafted from water-resistant, UV-protected materials.

Indoor – When shopping for indoor rattan, you’ll want to ensure that it’s crafted from materials that can withstand regular use and exposure to moisture.

Considerations When Selecting Rattan Furniture

There are a few important factors to keep in mind. By considering these elements, you can find the perfect selection for your space. Let’s take a look at the most important factors to consider.

Style & Design

When shopping for rattan furniture, you’ll want to start with a general idea of what you’re looking for. Ask yourself: Do you want classic pieces or something more modern? Do you plan to incorporate a specific design motif into your space? If so, rattan can be a great addition to any style.

Durability

Rattan is a long-lasting option, but it’s important to consider materials and craftsmanship. While there are many beautiful rattan pieces, it’s important to ensure that they are crafted from high-quality materials. You’ll also want to check for joints where materials meet, such as the leg joints. You want these joints to be tightly constructed, so they can withstand regular use.

Size & Shape

Rattan furniture is available in a wide range of sizes and shapes, making it a great option for many spaces. Whether you want something small and decorative, or a larger piece for a lounge area, you’ll likely find a rattan option that fits your needs. Most pieces are available in a variety of sizes, so you can choose the perfect option for your needs. You’ll also want to consider the size of the furniture when deciding where to add it to your space.

Maintenance & Care

When shopping for furniture, you’ll want to ensure that it’s easy to care for. Many rattan pieces are water-resistant, which makes them easy to clean, though you may want to protect against staining by using a protective covering. If you’re adding furniture to an outdoor space, you’ll want to make sure it is waterproof. You’ll also want to find a selection that is durable enough to withstand regular use.

Donating to the Bali Street Mums Project

Thank you for your kind and generous donations over the last month to aid the children and mothers at our Safe House in Denpasar, Bali. Your donations have made it possible for us to aid so many more children this month including these two very special girls.

Wayan 11 years old : Last week we found a little girl begging on the busy road of Kerobokan. She was disorientated, walking into the traffic, with her head down. She has an eye that is very damaged and blind. We brought her a cold drink and she told us that she begs with her older sister to support their father who is paralysed up in the mountains. She was hungry and had no shoes, her feet were covered in sores. She told us her eye was damaged by a knife 2 years ago. She said her family were poor and could not take her to the hospital.

Our social worker contacted Wayan’s family in the mountains to ask permission for us to take her to the hospital and the Safe house. We took Wayan to the eye hospital where she received eye drops and creams for instant relief. They told us the eye must be removed. We then contacted a Charitable Foundation that aids with eye surgery, They have committed to building a new eye for Wayan. We then took Wayan shopping for shoes and clothes and back to the Safe house for a good meal. The girls at the Safe house greeted Wayan with open arms and instantly took care of her.

We have taken food supplies to Wayan’s family in the mountains so that Wayan and her sister no longer have to beg on the streets to support them. We will continue to aid the family and take care of the girls. We will aid Wayan with her eye surgery and future.

Komang Ani 10 years old: This week we had a victory in rescuing Komang Ani from her abusive Step father. Komang Ani and her sister were sent to the streets by their step father to beg 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. When we met the little girls on the street, Komang told us that the stepfather hurt them. We went to the girls one room shack and met their Mother who asked us to take the little girls to the Safe house. She had a new baby with the stepfather and was frightened. We have had the girls under protection for the last 4 months and have worked with the Police to try and convict the stepfather. This has been a long and difficult process with a lot of therapy for the girls. The stepfather has finally been arrested and we are aiding their mother. She now can visit the girls in safety.

Thank you for your constant support and care for the children and mothers, Your donations have aided these girls and many more. We send you blessings from all of us at the Bali Street Mums and Kids Safe House. We hope that one day you can visit us.
